Another lighthouse familiar to my family. My grandfather Reginald William Gardiner was the keeper and their family lived in the house of this lighthouse for a time. My mother spent many hours swimming in the rock pools below. I also remember a story she told where she climbed and peeped through my grandfathers telescope while he was looking out to sea and gave him a big fright. He wacked her on the head!

My grandmother passed away here in 1942 when my mom was only eleven years old. The assistant keepers family had twin boys - John Donald and Donald John. When I lived in Mossel Bay in the 90's when my husband was working at Mossgas, my mom visited me and I took her to see her mothers grave and we went to the lighthouse for her to see it again. This visit being the first time back since her childhood. We were lucky that the lighthouse is unmanned but a gentleman hearing it was her home all those years ago allowed us in. Then we were surprised to find this gentleman was the grandson of one of those twins!!!

My mom passed in 2004 and requested her ashes be taken to the grave of her mom in Mossel Bay and some be strewn in the sea below the lighthouse. My brother who has also since passed fulfilled that wish.
