Old Court House Museum (Local History Museum) Durban. This, Durban's oldest public building, was saved from demolition when about a century old by Daphne Strutt, later curator of the Local History Museum Collection. It had been intended to scrap the building and make room for a councillors' car park. Fortunately this was not allowed to happen and the gravious old court house remains an eye-catching piece of our past in the centre of the city. Apart from valuable art works, the museum houses historic costume, artefacts pertaining to early Natal as well as photos of settler families, harbour history, whaling etc. |
