of Talavera Umgeni County; rejoined on the outbreak of war;
one of the defenders of Ladysmith who died near this spot 19th February 1900, aged 36 years

SMITH, David Guthrie - Trooper, ILH
died of wounds 12th Nov 1899, aged 23 years
